A 14-year-old Fayette County juvenile is in custody after sheriff’s deputies found him hiding in the woods after attempting a break-in at a north Fayette residence.

Sheriff Barry Babb said deputies responded to a burglary in progress call at a Mercedes Trail residence at approximately 11 p.m. on April 28.

Babb said the resident called 911 after he heard someone trying to break into his home. Deputies arrived and set up a perimeter to search for the suspect, Babb said.

“After a short search, a 14-year-old juvenile was found hiding in the woods,” Babb said. “Detectives interviewed the suspect and learned he’s involved in other recent crimes in the area, including two other burglaries and a stolen car on Easter weekend.”

Babb said the 14-year-old, a Fayette County resident, was taken into custody and transported to the regional youth detention center.
