At more than 12 years old, the All Childrens Playground in Peachtree City has been showing its age.
The rubberized surface designed to be traversed by kids of all abilities has had several potholes emerge. To address the issue, the entire playground will be resurfaced with a similar material that is expected to last longer into the future, city officials said.
The Peachtree City Council approved a $63,658 contract for the work at its Feb. 20 meeting. The contract was awarded to Bliss Products and Services Inc. of Lithia Springs.
The playground was built entirely with donations from the public, but there was no long-range fund built up for maintenance, which is being left to the city. However, the park is one of the most popular destinations for young families in the city.
The playground was designed to allow children in wheelchairs and walkers to be able to play with other children at the same time. The above-ground equipment has ramps leading to it with a gradual slope so they are easier to traverse. The rubberized surface is smoother than the bark found under many regular playgrounds. And there are specially designed swings to accommodate disabled children as well.
The playground is located at Picnic Park adjacent to City Hall and the Peachtree City Library, just off Lake Peachtree.
