It may be the dead of winter, but timelines are already in place for the 2014-2015 budget that will be adopted by the Fayette County Board of Education in June.
Assistant Superintendent of Business and Personnel Management Tom Gray at the Jan. 27 school board meeting provided an overview of the significant timelines necessary to have the budget in place and adopted on June 16.
Gray said preliminary revenue estimates began on Feb. 1, with preliminary budget allotments to schools based on projected enrollment. The school board in February will be updated on preliminary revenue estimates.
Preliminary payroll numbers and the salary structure will be reviewed by the superintendent and presented to the school board in March. Also in March, school-level operating budget allocations will be developed and requests will be sent for preliminary operating budgets from school system departments, Gray said.
April will have budget allotments sent to principals and revenue estimates updated. The school board during April will receive updated preliminary budget information and a list of contract employees, Gray said.
Gray said the tentative budget adoption is expected to come at the board meeting on May 19 followed by the final adoption at the board meeting on June 16.
