Richard A. Greuel of Fayetteville had a new hobby device Jan. 28, and the three inches of snow that blanketed the area gave him a chance to try it out.
“[This is an] aerial view of the southside of Fayetteville taken from the Chanticleer subdivision. The Fayette County Justice Center and Jail can be seen in the upper left. The water tower in the left hand side is the Fayetteville water tower near the Depot. The water tower center right in the background is the Fayette County water tower off of Ellis Road off of Highway 85 near J&R Clothing. The road in the foreground is Country Squire Drive leading north to South Jeff Davis Drive. Taken this morning [Jan. 29] at approximately 10:15 a.m.”
His story? “I am just a local resident who grew up here in Fayette County, and amateur photography is a bit of hobby. The photo was taken with a remote control multi-rotor helicopter with a camera attached to the bottom. If you want to learn more about the helicopter/camera, the website is http://www.dji.com/product/phantom-2-vision/.
“I bought the camera last Saturday and wanted to see what Fayetteville looked like from the air, so I went out on my driveway and took off flying approximately 400 feet straight up into the air and snapped a few photos.
“The only processing that I did on the photo was to correct the fish eye effect from the lens (so the horizon was straight and not curved) and sharpened the image a little. I hope you and your readers enjoy the photo as much as I have.”
