The Fayette County Public Library invites the public to an all-ages launch party celebrating the release of Vincent Wolf’s second children’s book, “The Boy with Hearts for Hair,” on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
On the agenda for the afternoon are a range of activities, including a dramatic reading of the story, a family-friendly presentation on bullying, question and answer with the author/illustrator, a game of “Pin the Hearts on the Hair,” free refreshments, and a book signing. Admission is free. Copies of the book will be on sale during the program, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library, whose generous support makes this event possible.
“The Boy with Hearts for Hair” tells the story of Anton, a fourth-grader with extremely unusual hair who is very nervous about the first day of school. Anton has been teased by other kids in the past for standing out from the crowd. He’s not sure he can face another school year of being picked on for being different. With encouragement and support from his grandmother, Anton finds a way to deal with the meanest bully in the school, in an inspiring tale designed to bring motivation and comfort to any young reader facing daily challenges among his or her peers.
An accomplished caricaturist and illustrator who describes himself as a “motivational artist,” Vincent Wolf has been using art to make observations about society since the age of four. These days, he aims his skills at combating social injustice. His previous book, “Do Your Best and Forget the Rest,” encourages children to keep a positive attitude during life’s ups and downs, despite what others may say or do. Wolf is also the founder of Llaget’s Drawings, an art business built on the value of creativity.
