A $1.6 million bid to rehabilitate the two Kedron stormwater detention ponds was approved by the Peachtree City Council Thursday night.
The ponds are located on the southern end of Kedron Drive and once the project begins, the road will be closed right at the ponds, though residents will still be able to get to their homes, officials said.
The repairs are necessary to prevent the dams from being breached which could result in downstream flooding that could threaten life or property, said Public Works Director Mark Caspar.
“They are definitely needed for safety reasons,” Caspar said.
Funds for the project are coming from the city’s stormwater utility.
The low bid was awarded to Brent Scarbrough Construction and staff has further negotiated a $100,000 reduction by selecting different materials for the project.
