The Fayette County Tigers had a rough outing in their season opener, as the visiting Woodward War Eagles came away with a 25-6 win.

The Tigers’ lone score came on a 5-yard run by quarterback Daveion Nash, who had set up a first-and-goal with a 60-yard run on a previous play.

After a scoreless first quarter, Woodward began to take control in the second. Down by a touchdown, Fayette County lined up to punt from deep in its own territory but a botched play resulted in the ball going out of the end zone for a safety. The very next play was a free kick by the Tigers, which a Woodward player returned for a touchdown.

Fayette County’s chances were hurt by four turnovers and several penalties. “We shot ourselves in the foot,” said head coach Mike Davis.

The Tigers return to action next Friday at Starr’s Mill.
