A late change in the football schedule for defending AAAA state champion Sandy Creek means a Florida powerhouse team will make the trip to Tyrone for a Thursday night game.
At last week’s annual Crying Towel Luncheon sponsored by the Peachtree City Rotary Club, Patriots head coach Chip Walker told the crowd that Plant High School from Tampa will be the opponent Aug. 29 for Sandy Creek’s season opener.

Plant was 10-2 last season but has won four state championships since 2006. Among its recent graduates is University of Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray.
Sandy Creek, coming off a 15-0 season, is 67-3 with three state titles in the past five years.

This game is the second half of a doubleheader at Sandy Creek. Banneker High from south Fulton, the Patriots’ original season-opening opponent, is reportedly scheduled to face Eastern Christian from Maryland in the first game of the night.
