Qualifying for city office in Senoia is just around the corner. Up for election this year will be the mayor’s seat and those of Post 1 Councilman Larry Owens and Post 2 Councilman Jeff Fisher. Qualifying will be held Aug. 26-28.

Mayor Robert Belisle for the past few months has maintained that he will not seek re-election. Belisle reiterated that stand Monday night after the City Council meeting.

The terms of Post 1 Councilman Owens and Post 2 Councilman Fisher are set to expire at the end of the year. Fisher on Monday night said he will seek re-election while Owens said he has made no decision.

The qualifying period will extend from Aug. 26-28 from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at City Hall on Main Street. The qualifying fee for the mayor’s seat is $360 and $90 for council seats.

Though Senoia practices at-large voting, the difference this year is that candidates must qualify for a specific post. The former practice of voting at-large and the top vote-getters winning the open seats was replaced by voting for a specific seat on the council due to changes in the city charter and in state law.

Those qualifying should also visit www.ethics.ga.gov to become familiar with state-required candidate forms.

The deadline for registering to vote in the November election is Oct 7.
