• Shannon Strombom, daughter of Carl Strombom and Sandra Stephan-Strombom, Peachtree City, has been named to the 2013 Lawrence University dean’s list for maintaining a 3.4 grade point average or higher for the full past academic year. Strombom is a 2010 graduate of American School in Japan.

• Fayetteville’s Stephanie Scott, a student at Southern Crescent Technical College, was awarded the silver medal in Esthetics at the annual National Leadership and Skills Conference and SkillsUSA Championships.
The SkillsUSA Championships are considered the largest single day of corporate volunteerism in America and valued at $36 million in industry support of donated time, equipment, cash and material. All contests are run by and judged by industry professionals using industry standards for employment. Over 1,100 industry judges participated this year.
All winners receive medallions and frequently receive tools of their trade and/or scholarships to further their careers and education. The SkillsUSA Championship is for high school and college-level students who are members of SkillsUSA. More than 6,000 students from every state and three territories competed in 98 contests in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations this year. In order to qualify for the national competition, the students competed in local and state contests. The state gold medal winners advanced to the national SkillsUSA Championships.
• Erin Morgen Owens, a rising junior English major at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., has been named to the Dean‘s List for the spring 2013 semester. A graduate of Woodward Academy, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Owens of Fayetteville, Ga.
All students earning a position on the Dean‘s list, a recognition of academic excellence, must have a grade point average of 3.7 or above on a 4.0 GPA scale for the semester.
Dickinson College, located in historic Carlisle, Pa., was chartered in 1783. The private, national liberal-arts college is home to 2,400 students from all-around the nation and the globe.
• Matthew Francois of Fayetteville made Avila University’s Dean’s List for Spring of 2013. Candidates possessed a grade point average of at least a 3.5. Avila University is a Catholic, co-educational, values-based liberal arts institution founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, offering undergraduate, graduate, and adult degree programs. Avila University is located at 119th and Wornall Rd. in southwest suburban Kansas City, Mo.
Georgia Southern University recently recognized 1,150 students for excellence in academics on the 2013 spring semester President’s List. To be eligible, a student must have at least a 4.0 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.
