A Whitesburg man was arrested on multiple charges after breaking in a home in Tyrone on June 21 then, after being arrested, kicking out the window of the patrol car and attempting to flee.

Darrell Shaun Taylor, 39, was charged with burglary, escape, obstruction and interference with government property, according to Sheriff Barry Babb.

Babb said deputies on June 21 responded to a burglary in progress on Tyrone Road. The victim of the burglary called 911 after a white male kicked his door in.

“When the perpetrator, later identified as Darrell Shaun Taylor, encountered the homeowner he said ‘Oops, wrong house,’ and fled the scene,” Babb said. “As he was leaving, the victim gave a detailed description of Taylor’s car.”

Tyrone Police spotted the car and Taylor was taken into custody by the Tyrone officers, said Babb.

“As Taylor was being transported to the jail, he kicked out the rear window of the Fayette County patrol car. As the deputy stopped the car, Taylor jumped out of the window and began to run down the street while handcuffed. He was taken into custody after a short chase and booked into the Fayette County Jail,” said Babb.

Babb said Taylor is considered a suspect in other similar crimes. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office as Taylor is suspected in crimes there as well, according to Babb.
