It has been awhile since the last public information was made available regarding the November SPLOST proposal. Originally, it was to address stormwater and road culvert work, but not much more has been published as to where the $20 million will be spent.
If the Fayette County Commission hopes for much public support, there is a need for a specific list, as much information on each proposed project as possible and adequate time for the public to evaluate the proposed list. Adequate time is more than a few weeks before the ballots are printed.
Also, I would suggest two items for consideration. First, if the list arrives at some number much lower than $20 million, there would be a provision to shut the SPLOST down when that number is reached. Second, if the list contains a project or projects that the public is clearly opposed to, that the list be adjustable to accommodate such changes.
I would appreciate, as I suspect everyone else would as well, a response as to the current status.
