Two men have admitted to participating in the armed robbery of the Atlanta Bread Company at the Fayette Pavilion June 30, 2012.
Quentin Richard Weems, 30 of Spalding Trail, Atlanta and Jamel Ladee McAllister, 25, of Kirk Drive, College Park entered guilty pleas last month in connection with the incident.
McAllister, who was fingered by police as the gunman in the incident, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Christopher C. Edwards. As part of the negotiated plea, McAllister pled guilty to criminal attempt to commit armed robbery and felony burglary, but prosecutors dropped charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and driving with an altered license plate.
McAlister’s May 15 guilty plea was preceded the day before by the guilty plea from Weems, who pled guilty to burglary but had the other associated charges dropped by the Fayette County District Attorney’s office. Weems was sentenced to 15 years in prison, also by Judge Edwards.
Weems and McAllister were caught minutes after the crime was reported to 911 thanks to an alert deputy who pulled over a white 2003 Acura that matched the description of the getaway vehicle broadcast by a Fayetteville officer who got to the store within a minute of the emergency call, police said.
That vehicle, stopped on Ga. Highway 314 north near Ga. Highway 138, contained the silver handgun used in the robbery along with the mask and clothing the suspects wore at the time of the robbery, police said.
During the incident the Atlanta Bread employee was held at gunpoint as Weems and McAllister tried to get into the store safe, police said. They ultimately escaped without any money, police said.
