• Peachtree City native Caitlyn E. Mitchell, a 2013 graduate of Oglethorpe University, was awarded the Sally Hull Weltner Award for Scholarship at the university’s commencement ceremony.
This award is given annually in loving memory of Sally Hull Weltner, wife of Dr. Philip Weltner, who was president of Oglethorpe University from 1944-1953. The award honors the student in the graduating class who has attained the highest grade-point average with the greatest number of hours in course work completed at the university. This year, the award was presented to two graduating seniors.
A graduate of McIntosh High School, Mitchell majored in English. She was a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society and served as co-editor of The Tower student literary magazine. She also interned as a campus magazine features writer at Pegasus Creative, Oglethorpe University’s student communications agency. Mitchell is now an associate editor at Whitman Publishing in Atlanta.
• Birmingham-Southern is proud to announce that Victoria Boone of Tyrone was named to its Dean’s List for the 2013 Spring Term. To be considered for the Dean’s List, a student must have been enrolled full-time, received a letter grade for each of the courses in which he or she was enrolled, and earned at least a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
• Juniata College has named Hillary Linda Palmer of Fayetteville, the daughter of Rodney Palmer and Gail Noren, and a 2010 graduate of Fayette County High School, to the 2013 spring dean’s list.
The dean’s list recognizes grade point averages of at least 3.6 out of a possible 4.0.
Juniata College is a national liberal arts college located in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. With an enrollment of 1,550, Juniata is a community dedicated to providing the highest quality liberal arts education.
• Kevin Kraus, Luther College vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, has announced that Karla Dietmeyer, Luther College senior from Peachtree City, Ga., was named to the 2013 spring semester Dean’s List.
To be named to the dean’s list, a student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale and must complete at least 12 credit hours with 10 hours of conventional grades (A, B, C, D).

• Fayetteville’s Shirin Bashir Amlani and Tyrone’s Linda Brittany Wilkins were named to the Dean’s Academic Honor List for the 2013 sprint semester. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. A private Christian university and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution, Baylor is classified as a research university with “high research activity” by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. This blends with Baylor’s international reputation for educational excellence built upon the faculty’s commitment to teaching, scholarship and interdisciplinary research to produce outstanding graduates.
• The University of Montevallo recently named Peachtree City’s Danielle A. Long to the President’s List honor roll for the spring semester.
To make the President’s List, a student must earn at least a 3.8 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and be a full-time student at the university.

• Noah Duncan of Fayetteville a member of the class of 2016 at Washington and Lee University, has earned dean’s list status for the recently ended winter term 2013.
Dean’s list status at Washington and Lee represents a term grade-average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.
• Cory Furches and Casey Hill graduated from the US Air Force Academy on Wed, 29 May. Both graduated from Starr’s Mill HS in 2009. The USAFA Class of 2013 graduated 1,024 of the original 1,667 that were offered appointments.
Furches majored in Civil Engineering and was selected as a soaring Instructor Pilot while at the Academy. Lieutenant Furches will be attending Pilot Training at Laughlin AFB, Tex.
Hill majored in biology, was an academy cheerleader and earned Dean’s List honors her last four semesters. Lieutenant Hill has been assigned to Dyess AFB, Tex. where she will be a Logistics Readiness Officer.
• Berry College welcomed 378 new alums May 11 at the Spring Commencement.
Leo Gutierrez of Peachtree City graduated from Berry College with a BA degree in International Studies.
Daniel Boccella of Fayetteville graduated from Berry College with a BS degree in Marketing.
Adrianna Roig of Peachtree City graduated from Berry College with a BS degree in Psychology.
Jalen Starks, 2013 graduate of Whitewater High School has been selected by the POSSE Foundation as the recipient of a four-year full tuition academic leadership scholarship to Texas A&M University in College Station, Tex.
Lauren Eason from Fayetteville graduated from the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University. Eason was awarded her Master of International Affairs. With 118 graduates, this class represents the largest graduating class since the foundation of the Bush School.
Founded in 1997, the Bush School of Government and Public Service is a professional graduate school offering both a Master of International Affairs (MPIA) and a Master of Public Service Administration (MPSA) degree. A non-partisan institution dedicated to defining excellence and nurturing future leaders in the noble ideals of public service, the Bush School’s mission is to prepare principled leaders for government and public service, conduct research, and perform service.
• Air Force 2nd Lt. Luke A. Wilkinson has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after completing the Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program and graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University.
Wilkinson is the son of Sherry Wilkinson of Wyngate Circle, Fayetteville.
• Air Force 2nd Lt. Adam C. Byne has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after completing the Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program and graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University,
Byne is the son of James and Stacy Byne of Summerville Drive, Brooks.
•Cassandra Haag of Tyrone graduated from Concordia University, St. Paul during the traditional undergraduate commencement ceremony. Haag graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in Psychology.
ª Riley Noonan made the Dean’s List for maintaining a 3.5 or higher GPA at Southern Polytechnic State University’s School of Engineering Technology and Management.
