Parents, students and community members, as the 2012-13 school year comes to a close and we look forward to the summer, which will bring relaxation and enjoyment with family and friends, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our many supporters and community leaders. We appreciate your commitment and involvement in our school.

As I reflect on our many accomplishments, we continue to have reason to celebrate. Newsweek Magazine named Sandy Creek High School as one of America’s Best High Schools in 2013. We were chosen because we have proven to be one of the most effective high schools in turning out college-ready graduates. Sandy Creek is an excellent school, and I am proud of the accomplishments that our staff and students have achieved.

Our 2012 SAT average score increased 28 points from the previous year. Additionally, we were named a 2013 Advanced Placement Honor School and received three awards. We were recognized as a Georgia AP Access and Support School because of the number of minority students earning a score of three or higher on the exam. We were also named an AP STEM School and an AP STEM Achievement School. These awards were issued as a result of our students taking the test in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses.

Our students have continued to soar in various areas during the 2012-13 school year. For example, multiple students were recognized for their work in Science Olympiad, three students will be participating in the Governors Honors program, and the Mock Trial Team won the region title. Our students have also done well in the Foreign Language Spoken competition, Skills USA and the Auto Skills competition. Our DECA students qualified for national competition, and we have HOSA state officers and regional winners. We also have a Model UN outstanding delegate winner. The students at Sandy Creek are able to effectively compete with students across the state.

Our school is filled with hard-working students who excel in all areas. Like most schools in America today, Sandy Creek is not perfect. Occasionally issues arise and students may not make the best choices. At that point, the teachers and administration work to assist students in making better choices. We encourage students to be responsible and behave appropriately. The administration works diligently to address inappropriate behavior that may occur at school.

The majority of our parents who have concerns bring them to the administration so that they may be addressed. I hope that process will continue as we welcome parents to our school so they may see the great things that are occurring. My door is always open to parents and we also welcome the feedback they provide. Sandy Creek is continuing to thrive and our students have bright futures as they prepare to advance to the next phase of their lives.

All of our success is because of the strong tradition of excellence at Sandy Creek High School. We have a great staff, awesome students, involved parents and a very supportive community.

Thank you,

Darrell Evans, Ed.D., principal
