Cancer Wellness at Piedmont Fayette Hospital is the recipient of a $35,000 grant from Clothes Less Traveled Thrift Shop, Inc. The grant will provide general operating support for Cancer Wellness at Piedmont Fayette, which offers free services and programs to anyone affected by cancer at any phase in his or her cancer journey, regardless of whether or not they are a Piedmont patient.
“We are humbled by the decision to award Cancer Wellness at Piedmont Fayette this generous grant,” said Michael Burnett, chief administrative officer at Piedmont Fayette. “Clothes Less Traveled Thrift Shop is a staple in our community and we sincerely thank them for all the support they have provided local charities like Cancer Wellness at Piedmont throughout the years.”
Founded in 1997, Clothes Less Traveled Thrift Shop, Inc. has donated more than $2.4 million to Fayette County charities. This year, it is projected to donate in excess of $500,000 to support the local non-profit community.
Since opening in 2010, Cancer Wellness at Piedmont Fayette has helped more than 800 cancer patients and their families. Professionally-led programs offered free to cancer patients, survivors and caregivers include education, relaxation and stress reduction, movement and exercise, expressive arts, meditation, support groups, individual nutritional and psychological counseling, cooking demos and social events.
“We are very pleased to provide support to Cancer Wellness at Piedmont Fayette and help those it serves in our community who deal with the effects of a cancer diagnosis in their lives,” said Wendy Binfield, grants coordinator at Clothes Less Traveled. “Our organization has received great support from the community allowing us to show our appreciation in return by providing support to impactful programs like this one.”
Clothes Less Traveled accepts gently used clothing and household items, and then sells the donated items in a retail shop. Collections have increased over time, causing the store to expand numerous times over the last decade. Revenue generated goes directly back to local charities through the Clothes Less Traveled grants program.
According to Georgia Comprehensive Cancer registry, Fayette County has a slightly higher incidence rate of cancer than the rest of the state – 489 cases per 100,000 people – making the impact of this grant even greater.
