“Prepare Ye the Way” for Godspell Jr. at The Legacy Theatre! Composer Stephen Schwartz’s (Wicked, Pippin) first and most beloved musical is being presented on the Legacy Stage through this weekend with the four different casts bringing to life the Gospel of St. Matthew.
This is the fourth “Jr.” production that the Legacy has produced, having previously brought “Honk,” “Dear Edwina,” and “Thoroughly Modern Mille” to the stage, and the casts are comprised entirely of students in the theater’s Legacy Studios classes.
“These are fully-realized productions,” states Artistic Director, Mark Smith. “The sets, lights, sound, direction and choreography have been created by professionals, giving our kids the chance to participate in a high-quality production and our audiences a fun and surprising night of entertainment. These productions have actually become some of our best-selling shows! Tickets go very fast.”
The various casts include 107 kids who will take the stage over the next two weeks with three performances. Lily Ramos, Audrey Myers, Hannah Stephens, and Izzi Robles will take the stage as Jesus on various nights. Judas will be played by Annaliese Bauer, Catherine Cervone, Olivia Vena, and Lily Robles.
“This production has been very educational for our kids as well,” says Executive Producer and Choreographer Bethany Smith. “Not only do they have the opportunity to take on difficult choreography and music, but they also have been exposed to different acting techniques and styles, including improvisation and mime. I can definitely say these kids have risen to the challenge.”

The Legacy is very proud of its theater and dance programs, and they are often a springboard for kids whose dream is to be on Broadway or in the movies. Upcoming opportunities for area youth include a one-week summer theatre camp July 22-26 and the Fall 2013 Semester of Legacy Studios. In September the theater will produce Broadway’s “13,” a musical comprised entirely of teenagers. Auditions will be in May.
