It was a close call Thursday night for the manager of the PetSmart store at the Fayette Pavilion as she avoided an attempted armed robbery.

Fayetteville Police Det. Mike Whitlow said the manager had closed the store and was leaving at approximately 9:45 p.m. As she approached her vehicle the woman noticed that she had a flat tire, Whitlow said.

The woman was then approached by a man she described as a short, slender black male dressed in black clothing and wearing a mask, said Whitlow. The man pointed a gun at her and demanded that she give him her money. When the woman hesitated the man repeated the demand saying, “Give me your money, bitch,” Whitlow reported.

The man then grabbed her and demanded that she re-enter the store and give him the contents of the safe, said Whitlow. It was at that point the woman
began to scream, broke free and ran toward the Home Depot store, Whitlow added.

The masked man then began running toward Ga. Highway 85, Whitlow said.

Whitlow said the victim was shaken up but unharmed in the incident.
