Anni Hammons, 92, of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013.
She was born Anna Langhammer in Karlsbad, Czechoslovakia on November 27, 1920. She was the only child of Maria and Fred Langhammer.
After graduation from Business College she worked in the family business for a while. During WWII she and her family fled to Germany where she worked as a teletype operator for the American Army. During this time she met and married her life’s love, Tate Butler Hammons, a young American soldier from Louisiana.
After the war they came to the US and had a second marriage ceremony. From then until his death in 1975 she was affectionately known as Blondie. Being in the military they had numerous assignments ending at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where she remained until she moved to Peachtree City, Ga. because of her declining health, to be close to her oldest daughter Dorothy Howell.
She was always a very active and athletic person. When she was younger she loved to ski and travel. While living in Oklahoma she was a hospital volunteer and later worked for many years in the Lawton Oklahoma school system. She was a member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters and their families; Dorothy and Bill Howell, their daughter and son-in-law Heather and Derrick McElwaney with children Travis, Tate and Thomas of Georgia; Felicia Hammons and daughter and son-in-law April and Michael Klabon, and son, Sawyer of Colorado; Sylvia Hammons of New Mexico.
She will be buried in Oklahoma in Fort Sill Cemetery with her husband. The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the people of Dogwood Forest and Serenity Hospice for their wonderful care during her declining health.
