The “Give One to the Chipper” event each January is a favorite “Service Above Self” project of the Rotary Club of Peachtree City.
This year on Saturday, Jan. 5th, some 32 Rotarians along with several family members and friends volunteered to staff the Christmas Tree chipping locations at the Kedron Kroger and the Peachtree City Home Depot. The community was invited to bring their trees for chipping to these locations and the volunteers assisted in unloading their trees from the cars, trucks, trailers and yes – even from golf carts.
The Rotary Club also accepted donations for the Fayette Samaritans Food Bank and due to the generosity of the community the Samaritans now have an additional $1,100 to use in serving the needs of those less fortunate in our area.
It was a beautiful day (although pretty cool) and hundreds of trees were sent to the chipper to protect the environment and provide mulch which is made available to the community at the Peachtree City’s recycling center on Rockaway Road.
The Rotary Club of Peachtree City is the oldest service club in Peachtree City and presently has approximately 100 members who follow the motto of “Service Above Self”. It meets each Thursday at noon at the Peachtree Wyndham Conference Center. The club has been publishing the community telephone directory for 40 years (now titled the Smart Directory), and recently began sponsoring dragon boat races on Lake Peachtree as community service projects and fundraisers for local, state and international projects to help those in need.

And if you are still stuck with your Christmas tree, the McIntosh High School boys lacrosse team will pick it up and dispose of it at the city recycling center for you in exchange for a donation to their program.
