Mr. Henry Edward “Ed” Knowles of Fayetteville, Ga., died Jan. 19, 2013 at his home after an extended illness.
He was a proud patriot and WWII veteran, who spoke frequently of his service. He was a member of Riverdale Masonic Lodge #709 and member of Fayetteville VFW Post 105. He was an active member at Friendship United Methodist Church and served on many projects over the years. He worked with the Youth Baseball Program in its early years and also served as a Boy Scout leader.
Mr. Knowles had worked for the Central of Georgia Railroad in the 1950’s and kept lifelong friends from that time as well as his enjoyment of trains. He was known as a master carpenter in the Fayetteville area until a stroke in 1975.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Edward and May Lily (Harris) Knowles; sister Louise Winkles; and brothers Harold, Gene, and Marvin Knowles.
He is survived by his wife Louise Lee Knowles; daughter Rita McElwaney; sons Eddie (Ann), David (Angie), and Ted (Connie); brothers Reuben (Helen), Leon (Charlotte), Larry (Maria); sisters Dot Stanley, Betty Coker, Joyce Jones, and Joan Wilson. He had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews that he enjoyed very much.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Rev. Fred Kolshorn officiated. The burial followed at Friendship UMC Cemetery.
