A Fairburn man was arrested by Fayette County deputies on Aug. 21 after stealing an all-terrain vehicle featured on Craigslist that he was supposed to be test driving for a possible purchase.
Sheriff’s spokesman Brent Rowan said investigators made an arrest in connection with the July 29 theft of a Yamaha Banshee all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Investigators arrested Alexander Stinchcomb, 17, of Fairburn and charged him with theft by taking, Rowan said.
Rowan said the case involved a Fayette County citizen placing an ad on the craigslist.org website attempting to sale the Yamaha Banshee ATV. Stinchcomb responded to the classified where he proceeded to steal the Yamaha ATV after telling the victim he was simply going to take it for a test drive, Rowan said.
Rowan said residents are urged to use incidents such as these to educate themselves.
“We urge individuals to use caution when meeting potential buyers or sellers of merchandise which has been posted on online boards such as Craigslist,” Rowan said.
