Magistrate candidate Thompson responds to conflict charge

I have stated from the very beginning of my campaign, there is no time for on the job training. I will be ready for office on day one due to my vast legal experience as a judge, prosecutor, and mediator. I am qualified and I am ready to serve the citizens of Fayette County.

My wife, Alisha, and I met in law school and have both spent our legal careers working for the citizens of Fayette County. When considering running for the office of Magistrate Judge, Alisha and I contacted the State Bar of Georgia, Chief Magistrate, and Solicitor-General in order to verify that there was in fact no conflict of interest. Being married to an assistant in the Solicitor General’s office does not create a conflict of interest.

When I take office as Magistrate Judge, I will not preside over any cases where my wife would be prosecutor. There are four Magistrate Judges in Fayette County and over ten (10) prosecutors in the District Attorney’s Office and Solicitor-General’s Office. To suggest a conflict is to merely distract voters from the truth and to misrepresent the role of Magistrate Judge. My credentials inside and outside of the courtroom speak for themselves. I am committed to my profession and my community.

I have a strong record of public and professional service. As a past President of the Fayette County Bar Association, my knowledge of the law and how the law works is clear. I am a former Judge Pro Hac for the Peachtree City Municipal Court, and I have tried a case in every trial court in the Griffin Judicial Circuit. I have the experience and expertise needed for the job.

In addition, I have a remarkable record of public service and responsibility that embodies my commitment to Fayette County. I encourage voters to look at my credentials and my opponent’s credentials. The choice is clear. I am the only candidate with the experience, the expertise, and the dedication to Fayette County running for the office of Magistrate Judge. This is the reason why Joe Tinsley has endorsed me to succeed him as Magistrate Judge and Rep. Matt Ramsey and Past Presidents of the Bar Association are endorsing me as well.

Please visit www.ElectThompson.com for more information on how my experience and involvement in our community makes me the only qualified candidate for Magistrate Judge.
