An Atlanta man was arrested Monday for beating and raping a woman in a cul-de-sac in north Fayette County May 29, police said.
Abdulrahman Hassan Alwi, 23, of Atlanta abducted the victim from a night club on Old National Highway and brought her to a cul-de-sac on Sara Cove in the Franklin Farms subdivision where the assault took place, according to investigators from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
Alwi stole the woman’s clothes and cellphone to prevent her from calling 911, investigators said. The victim was later able to escape the assault and fled to a nearby residence where she was able to call 911 for help, officials said.
The victim suffered slight injuries during the assault and was treated at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, investigators said.
Alwi was charged with rape, aggravated assault, kidnapping and interfering with a 911 call, police said.
Alwi was arrested in Atlanta by agents for the U.S. Marshals Service. He is currently in jail awaiting a bond hearing in Fayette County Magistrate Court.
