The Dead Grass Parade. Yes, the 4th of July parade on Wednesday should be fun and patriotic. But now for those of us living around south Peachtree Parkway, by noon on the 4th, it will be the Dead Grass Parade.
For some unknown reason, one person started a mob mentality about saving viewing spaces for the parade by putting down a tarp just south of Crosstown on Saturday — a full four days before the parade and with several days of 100-plus degrees highs in between.
The tarps act as ovens and quickly kill the grass. Now, there is mob mentality to quickly save a space and the Parkway as of Sunday evening is littered with tarp ovens over the grass.
After the 4th, those of us actually living in the area will get to enjoy the dead, brown grass due to the thoughtlessness of those putting out way early tarps.
Tarps should be illegal until at least 3 p.m. the day before the parade. City Council should do something about such inconsiderate behavior. Why should the City Council allow damage to city easements?
By the way, I don’t mind those considerate enough to set aside with string or yellow caution tape — those are not grass ovens.
