Peachtree City’s Drake Field, which is adjacent to City Hall and the Library, is now partially closed as the City’s contractor sets up for the July 4 fireworks display. The closed area has been cordoned off and Liberty Fireworks will have security on-site through July 5.
Drake Field is a popular park for dog owners who have animals trained to obey voice command. It is the only public park that allows dogs trained in voice command to play off-leash and in Lake Peachtree. The park is also the launching point for the swimming leg in Peachtree City’s adult triathlons, and is used by swimmers to access the lake for practice.
Although the southeastern point of Drake Field is closed, the eastern edge of the lake that has an entrance with handrails for swimmers remains open. The park will remain open for the Public Safety Expo from 3 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, but will be completely closed during the fireworks display due to safety requirements.
