The Georgia Division of Midwest Food Bank, located in Peachtree City, recently held an open house to increase public awareness. As a faith-based organization, the mission of Midwest Food Bank is to alleviate hunger and poverty by gathering and distributing food donations to not-for-profits and disaster sites without cost to the recipients.
MFB is not a direct food pantry that serves individuals. Instead, MFB is a food bank, serving as a distribution center to smaller food banks and food pantries across the region. In this way, they aim to positively impact as many families as possible.
The Georgia Division of Midwest Food Bank has been in operation for eight months and has more than doubled the number of agencies it is serving; growing from serving nine agencies last October to 20 agencies across a nine county area in May.
According to Executive Director Linn Stoller, the success and growth of the local MFB is due to the overwhelming support of many dedicated community volunteers. Linn says that people are at their best when they are serving others, and MFB’s organizational structure enables many nonprofit organizations and volunteers to take part in our monthly distributions and daily activities.
