Lester Bray was honored on Saturday, June 9, 2012 as Fayette County’s Farmer of the Year at the Fifth Annual Fayette County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee Farmer Appreciation event.
This event is sponsored every year by the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, whose purpose is to educate individuals about agriculture.
Born and raised in Fayette County, Mr. Bray has been gardening all his life, and has become a local legend to all that know him. He has been a wonderful asset to the community and continues to educate and enrich the lives of our citizens.
Not only has he been active in teaching and guiding farmers and homeowners to success, he has volunteered for the last 5 years with the Fayette County Cooperative Extension, Master Gardener Extension Volunteers at the Plant a Row for the Hungry. Mr. Bray has taught volunteers the concept of plastic culture and the substantial increase in produce it provides.
Work in the PAR garden is completed solely by volunteers and all produce is given to local food banks to provide nutritious food to those in need.
His guidance, compassion for others, and love of gardening continues to help make this garden a success. Gardening is his passion and he loves to share his knowledge so success can be achieved by all willing to learn.
