Entries to Peachtree City’s July 4th Parade this year are being required to show up at the staging area no later than 7:30 a.m. or go to the rear.

The earlier time is required by the police department because of traffic flow issues, city officials said. Any parade entries that show up after 7:30 a.m. will be “moved to the back of the line,” said parade organizer Becky Kimble of the Peachtree City Recreation Department.

Also, parade entries will be required to enter the staging area by going southbound on Robinson Road at Crosstown Road; they will not be able to enter the area by going north on Robinson, officials said.

The other big change for the July 4 festivities is the start time of the annual Fire Department Expo at Drake Field, which will run from 4-7 p.m., Kimble said.

This year’s parade will be led by three honorary grand marshals who are the leaders of local veterans organizations: Arnie Geiger of American Legion Post 50, Stony Lohr of

Veterans of American Wars Post 9949 and Guy Mitchell of the Marine Corps League Detachment 1325.

The three men helped organize the city’s annual Memorial Day ceremony this year, which was a huge help to the city, Kimble said.

Entries in the parade are reminded to soft toss candy toward the ground for the safety of spectators, and parents are reminded to keep their kids a safe distance from the parade vehicles.

The parade will follow the usual path, beginning in front of the Village on the Green subdivision on south Peachtree Parkway and going north until it turns left on McIntosh Trail and then left into the Shakerag recreation complex at the end.
