Catherine Sanderson has qualified to run for the Post 1 Fayette County Magistrate Judge in the July 31 non-partisan election. The seat was previously held by Judge Joe Tinsley, who has retired.

Catherine has lived in Fayette County for most of her life. She has three children, a son who is a sophomore at Georgia Tech, and two daughters enrolled in Fayette County public schools.

Practicing law for over 13 years, Catherine has experience in the civil and criminal courts in Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Fayette County State Court, and Fayette County Superior Court. She also has appellate experience.

Catherine has extensive experience in handling all issues that come before a magistrate judge. She has litigated dozens of domestic violence cases, and has the experience to protect those in need of protection, while still preventing abuse of the system. She has prosecuted warrants and defended the accused in criminal matters, as well as having served as foreman of the Fayette County Grand Jury in 2010.

“I believe I bring a fair and reasonable approach to the court system, and will utilize my experience and common sense in serving Fayette County,” she said.

Catherine has tremendous support among those in the law enforcement community from her 13 years as a local attorney and her involvement in the community.

As an employer and small business owner, Catherine has an interest in keeping the economy strong and healthy.

And as a homeowner, she wants to keep the housing market vibrant — and believes this can be achieved, in part, through the maintenance of a strong justice system.

As a mother and long-time resident of the county, she also has a keen understanding of the needs of the Fayette County community. She effectively advocates for justice for her clients, and her highest priority is the safety and security of the citizens of Fayette County.

Catherine is active in the Fayette County community, currently serving on the Board of the Southern Conservation Trust. She is a member of the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers, the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

Catherine has served as Board Chair of the Fayette Family YMCA, has served on the executive board of the Fayette County Bar Association, has served on the board for DART, and was the Mock Trial Coach for Starr’s Mill High School for five years.

In addition, Catherine coaches soccer in the Fayette County Youth Soccer League, and is fluent in Spanish.

Catherine is no stranger to hard work, and remembers working three jobs to make ends meet. As a mother of three, and a local attorney, Catherine knows how to balance the demands of raising children with operating a successful business.

Catherine’s is a story of success in the face of adversity. She has worked to find a balance between work, home and community.

“I am committed to the Fayette County Community and our justice system,” said Catherine. “I have the temperament and knowledge-base necessary to fairly administer justice in our Magistrate Court.”
