It’s not just an event. It’s an extravaganza. And it is happening in Senoia on Memorial Day. The 7th Annual Memorial Day Celebration and Festival is expected to draw thousands again this year for a day full of events that will begin at 10 a.m. Monday and continue until nightfall.

The day will begin on Main Street with the festival that will feature antiques, arts and crafts, a food court, military exhibits complete with World War II jeeps and uniformed veterans and a children’s area with face painting, inflatables, train rides and games. And the Sons of Confederate Veterans will be on hand again firing black-powder rifles.

A program honoring veterans will begin at noon and will be followed by the annual parade at 2 p.m. As usual, the parade route through downtown is expected to be packed with people. New to the parade this year will be crowd control barriers in place along the route to add an extra measure of safety. Senoia in recent years has experienced a significant increase in the number of people, both residents of the city and those from surrounding areas, attending the various events held throughout the year. Some of those events have drawn well over 2,000 people.

The festivities will continue through the afternoon and will culminate with a fireworks display after sunset at Marimac Lakes on Pylant Street.
