Coweta County Board of Education At-large member April Parker resigned her post on the school board earlier this week. Parker cited personal and family reasons as the motivation for her resignation.
School system spokesman Dean Jackson on Wednesday said the school system received the resignation letter on May 13.
“I am writing to let you know that I have made a decision to resign from the Coweta County Board of Education due to personal and family reasons. Thank you for the opportunity to serve along side you the last year and a half,” the letter said.
Jackson said the school board has the responsibility to appoint a replacement board member to serve Parker’s unexpired term. The board has not yet discussed the matter, Jackson said.
An east Coweta resident, Parker in 2010 challenged and defeated incumbent Michael Sumner after receiving 50.25 percent of the vote.
