Practice makes perfect for the winners of the 2012 Fayette County School Bus Road-E-O.

All four top school bus drivers were contestants in the competition last year, and three of them who did not land placements in 2011 proved that practice and determination could prevail. This year’s winning school bus drivers are Kathy Warden, first place; Sherry Harris, second place (moving up from third place last year); Duane Lawson, third place; and Rhonda Cooper, fourth place.

It takes driver precision and accuracy to weave in and out of cones without touching them, and backing up and parallel parking within mere inches of a marker. These are not just skills of a great competitor, but also markers of a safe driver, and exactly the message the school system’s bus drivers wanted to bring to the community through the Road-E-O.

Nine drivers volunteered their personal time to practice and participate in the event. Between morning and afternoon routes, drivers were given five practice days to polish their skills before the big event.

As the county’s first place winner, Kathy Warden will represent Fayette in the Georgia State School Bus Road-E-O June 6-7 in Warner Robins.
