Peachtree City residents seeking their required tree removal permit will no longer have to provide a plat of their property along with the permit application.
The city council approved a staff request to eliminate the requirement at last week’s council meeting.
City Planning and Zoning Administrator David Rast said the city is accomplishing the same goal by reviewing aerial photos of the properties to determine if there is a stream, wetland, greenbelt or other buffer on the site or adjoining property. Such data is available on the city’s Geographic Information System (GIS) network.
“Not everybody has a copy of their plat, and we were getting hand-drawn sketches that really didn’t show us anything,” Rast said.
The city sometimes is able to turn around the permit requests the same day, and at the worst in a two-day time frame, Rast said.
“This will make the submittal process a whole lot easier,” Rast said.
Late last year, council approved changes to the tree removal permitting process that were designed to shift the burden from city staff to those seeking the permits.
