Fayette County-based Integrated Science and Engineering will be responsible for program management duties and design phase services for the upcoming Ga. Highway 92/Hood Avenue alignment project in Fayetteville. ISE was approved for the work at the April 19 meeting of the Fayetteville City Council.
Already serving as the city’s engineering consultant, ISE was recommended for the work by Public Services Director Don Easterbrook for the design phase services and program management.
The program management portion of the project is estimated at $92,102.50 and will be paid on an hourly basis. Program management includes financial/budget tracking, scheduling, communication and management of the project. Easterbrook said ISE’s hourly cost was lower than that of the firm contracted for the crosswalk project on Ga. Highway 54 at Piedmont Fayette Hospital.
The cost for the design phase totals $237,255 and includes civil engineering design and construction plans, landscape design, geotechnical and environmental sub-surface investigations and traffic signal design. The cost for right-of-way and easement documents will be assessed by the hourly fee.
Easterbrook said ISE was recommended for the project since the company is the under an annual consulting agreement, has been involved in the project from the beginning and is competitive from a cost standpoint. The costs associated with the design and program management fees are included in the project budget.
The roadway project that will link Hwy. 92 and Hood Avenue to the new Kathi Avenue Extension and on to North Jeff Davis Drive is designed to help ease the flow of traffic through the downtown area a few blocks away and provide a simplified routing of traffic in and around the immediate downtown area.
The roadway project could potentially go out for bid in January 2013 and be completed by mid-2014.
