Colonel Donald Lloyd Groover (GA Army National Guard Ret.) of Fayetteville, Ga., formerly of East Point, Ga., passed away on April 8, 2012 at the age of 76.
Colonel Groover was a proud veteran of the GA Army National Guard having served 35 years prior to his retirement. He was a 37 year employee of the Georgia Department of Labor where he served as a Contract Officer.
Lloyd was a good man, who was devoted to his family and had a great sense of humor. He was a long time member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. He loved gospel music and enjoyed singing in the choir.
At the age of 22, he was the youngest Deacon ever ordained at the Ardsley Park Baptist church in Savannah, Ga. Lloyd spent his whole life devoted to doing something with his family, for his family, and for his church or his country. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Cindi Groover.
Colonel Groover is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Groover; son Brian Groover and his wife Paulla of Hampton, Ga; and granddaughter Brittney Groover.
A funeral service will be held on Wed., April 11, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church.
Reverend Mark Westmoreland, Reverend Mark Burgess and General William Steele will officiate. Interment will follow at Camp Memorial Park with full military honors.
