When Sandy Creek High’s SkillsUSA team competes, they go all out. Not only did all 18 contestants medal in their events at the SkillsUSA Region Competition, but they also had the most team members competing from their geographic area that stretches from Rockdale County in the north to Crisp County in the south.
Sandy Creek’s team took home first, second and third place medals from 12 competitive events. All first and second place winners will advance to the state competition in March.
First place winners: Gavin Baswell, automotive service technology; Keri Davis, prepared speech; Saridh Galvan, Georgia t-shirt design and presentation; Anna Paden, graphic communications; Marissa Shenkle, extemporaneous speaking; Carlisle Vidourek, advertising design; and Alex Whitlock, job skill demonstration open.
Second place winners: Addie Davis, job interview; and quiz bowl team participants Kysauri Davis, Marcie Giordano, Laura Llorens, Jackson Mulhall, Anish Patel, Kaylin Rainey, and Joy Young.
Third place winners: Maysie Jenkins, pre-school teaching assistant; Alex Lynch, job skill demonstration A; and Jake Nolin, power equipment technology.
“The students and all of us at Sandy Creek would like to thank everyone involved for their support of this great program and our efforts to be successful,” said Jeff Dykes, the school’s SkillsUSA advisor and graphic communications teacher.
The regional competition had approximately 160 registered contestants.
Sandy Creek’s SkillsUSA chapter is the sixth largest in the state and has won awards at every conference held this year to date.
