With $3 million set aside for necessary improvement projects at existing city facilities, Peachtree City has selected an “on-call” architectural firm to provide such services as needed.
Based on a recommendation from city staff, the City Council awarded a contract to Pond and Company since it was the highest-scoring proposal out of the top five proposals submitted.
By using an on-call architect, it will save a considerable amount of time, since the city will not have to issue requests for proposals for each individual project, according to City Manager Jim Pennington.
The city has seen an increased need in previous years for architectural services from structural matters to mechanical, electrical and plumbing issues as well, City Engineer David Borkowski told council.
The city received 13 RFPs to consider and the top five were evaluated in large part based on their experience, which was weighted at 60 percent, followed by their hourly rates at 30 percent. Another five percent each was given to each company’s references and geographic considerations.
Borkowski said the city did check references on Pond, and he also has had a good experience working with the company previously.
Councilwoman Vanessa Fleisch said there is already a backlog of projects, and she wondered how soon they could be accommodated.
“As quick as the mayor can sign the contract,” Pennington replied.
