I want to take this opportunity to thank the Peachtree City Council, especially Vanessa Fleisch, for the recent action taken on Thursday evening in granting a contract to the Fayette Senior Services to develop our senior services here in Peachtree City.
I had talked to Vanessa a year ago about the programs offered at the senior center in Fayetteville and how nice it would be if our own Gathering Place appealed to more people with different interests. Never, in my wildest imagination did I think anything would come from that conversation.
Whatever role Vanessa played in this venture (and I am sure it was extensive) it had a positive impact in getting everyone on board. For that I am truly grateful and I thank Vanessa Fleisch for efforts in getting this done.
If you have never been to the Senior Center in Fayetteville, you owe it to yourself to see what they have to offer and what will hopefully be offered here. I know it will take time to implement some of the projects but after last night, I am sure Debbie Britt will make this program as successful here as it is in Fayetteville. She is a resident of Peachtree City and knows the importance of having a program like this closer to the city.
I belonged to the Senior Center in Fayetteville for a year and the only thing that kept me from going back was the fact that gas prices had soared and I was interested in going to so many of their functions, I would be driving up there 3-4 days a week. Economically it became burden. With these programs coming here, it will be so much easier to participate.
Please support this program and if you have any constructive suggestions you want to pass along, please make sure your voice is heard. Think of volunteering to make this happen the way it should.
There are many of us over the age of 50 who want activities offered to us that are diverse and fun. This will give us all so many more opportunities to expand our interests and talents. I am excited and the fact that it will not cost the taxpayer anymore than what is already budgeted is a win-win proposition.
