A Riverdale man has been sentenced to one year in prison for an Aug. 10, 2010 DUI wreck in Fayetteville that involved his two children as passengers.
Shane Christopher Barrington, 36, pled guilty in court Monday to one felony count of obstruction of a police officer and misdemeanor counts of DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and two counts of endangering a child while DUI.
Court officials said Barrington was under the influence of oxycodone at the time of the crash.
Superior Court Judge Fletcher Sams sentenced Barrington to one year in prison followed by nine years probation along with a $2,300 fine.
According to court documents, at the scene of the wreck, Barrington attempted to strike a sheriff’s deputy who was investigating the crash. At the time of the crash, Barrington’s 13-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter were in the vehicle, officials said.
In other pleas taken in court Monday, a Peachtree City man pled guilty to stealing a golf cart in July 2010 and also to pointing a pistol at another in a separate incident Oct. 2, 1010. Darrell Gatlin, 48, was sentenced to 12 months in jail followed by 10 years probation and a $2,000 fine.
In a separate case, a Milledgeville woman pled guilty to shoplifting nearly $2,000 in merchandise and gift cards from the Fayetteville Toys-R-Us store in December 2008. Shanta Necole Wheeler, 32, was sentenced to one year in prison followed by nine years on probation, a $3,000 fine. She also was ordered to stay away from Toys-R-Us stores.
