The Optimist Club of Senoia will sponsor a blood drive for the Senoia area on Monday, November 7. The community drive will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Senoia United Methodist Church. The hours of the drive will be from 1-6 p.m. Since this will be the last blood drive in Senoia before the upcoming holidays, local Donor Recruitment Representative Julie Tilson of the American Red Cross (ARC) explained that people are encouraged to “make a donation before vacation.”
Additional staffing by the American Red Cross (ARC) is again expected which will favorably impact the wait time at the Senoia drive. The first drive of the year in Senoia was on February 7 and had possibly the largest number of attempted donors (72) ever for the local area. Thanks to the efforts of the ARC and the Optimist Club volunteers, the flow of donors moved smoothly throughout the day then and also at the subsequent blood drives on May 2 and August 1.
Residents of the Senoia area, including neighboring communities, are strongly encouraged to donate the “gift of life” at the upcoming drive on November 7th. The upcoming blood drive in Senoia can help to increase the blood supply in our area, but only if enough people make the effort to get out and make a much needed donation.
Those who give will obviously know they have done something to benefit others, but – in addition to this feeling of accomplishment – they will be rewarded by a free gift of special coupons from a number of businesses in Senoia including Maguire’s Family and Friends Restaurant and Redneck Gourmet. Senoia Optimists also plan to serve their delicious grilled cheese sandwiches along with the traditional cookies and juice. Please make your plans now to attend this critical blood drive.
Donors at the Senoia blood drive are again encouraged to bring one or more non-perishable food items. The Optimist Club members will collect these items and make them available to a local food bank in order to help those in need.
The address of the church in historic Senoia is 229 Bridge Street, and it is located at the intersection of Seavy and Bridge Streets. For those not familiar with the area, you can turn east at the downtown intersection of Main Street and Seavy Street, and go past the Veranda Bed & Breakfast towards the City Park or State Highway 85. The church is on the right – only about 2 blocks east of Main Street.
A single pint of blood can be safely donated every 56 days, and this important opportunity will allow the citizens in and around the Senoia area to once again rise to the need.
It is anticipated that those who donated at the Optimist Club’s last blood drive will be personally notified about the upcoming effort and given the opportunity to schedule their appointments to better meet their needs. In the meantime, if any questions arise, potential donors may either contact Senoia Optimist Club member Linda Martin at 770-599-9791 or the SenoiaUnited Methodist Church office at 770-599-3245.
Most healthy people age 17 and older or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood. For more information, please call 1-800-GIVE LIFE (448-3543) or visit www.redcrossblood.org.
