The November elections for the Tyrone mayor and two seats on the Town Council are nearly here. But what about the money usually needed to fund a campaign? It turns out that mayoral candidate Derrick Jackson is the biggest spender with his competitor Eric Dial barely beating out Post 2 candidate Pota
Coston for the second spot
in the spending race.
Candidates in the upcoming election include Eric Dial and Derrick Jackson for mayor, Linda Howard and Tammy Proctor for the Post 1 council seat and Pota Coston and Ryan Housley for the Post 2 council seat. Information on the candidates filings was obtained at the Georgia Ethics Commission website at http://ethics.ga.gov/
Dial in his Oct. 25 filing accounted for a total of $7,600 in contributions to date. That total included $3,900 in contributions previously reported, $3,300 in current contributions in amounts of $100 or more and $400 in contributions of less than $100.
Donors to Dial’s campaign contributing more than $100 included Sen. Ronnie Chance at $1,000, Todd Young and Thomas Young at $500 each, Mark Gray and Jay Morgan at $250 each, William Aubrey at $200 and Carl Schouw, Susan Weiner, Christina Tai, Tim Lassiter, Frank Fortner and Randy Hayes each at $100-200.
Dial’s expenditures listed in the Oct. 25 report totaled $4,161.32 and included $784 spent for printing and food, beverages and supplies for a campaign event and $3,377.26 carried over from the previous reporting period.
Jackson in his Sept. 30 filing showed a total of $9,195 in contributions to date. Of that amount, $2,615 came as contributions of more than $100, $2,580 in contributions of less than $100 and $4,000 was in the form of a campaign loan.
Donors to Jackson’s campaign contributing more than $100 included the Fayette County Democratic Committee at $325, George Brown and Alex Singleton at $250 each and $100-200 from Rep. Virgil Fludd, Harold Brown, Paul Buchanan, Bernard Coston, Ida L. Curry, Thomas Grathwohl, Karen Green, Crissy Jones, Robert Kendrick, Lean Moss and Debra Triplett.
Jackson in the filing listed $5,508.50 in expenditures for website-related items, various types of printing, venue rental, printing and giveaways, printer cartridge, stamps and various office and event supplies.
Post 1 candidate Linda Howard in her Oct. 25 filing showed a total of $525 in contributions and $488.50 in expenditures.
Howard’s contributions came in the form of $302 in in-kind donations for campaign postcards and $223 in contributions less than $100 while $488.50 in expenditures went for the qualifying fee and campaign signs.
Post 1 candidate Tammy Proctor in her Sept. 30 filing listed no contributions to her campaign and no expenditures.
Post 2 candidate Pota Coston in her Sept. 30 filing listed $7,457.12 in contributions and $4,166.84 in expenditures.
Contributions to Coston’s campaign included $2,245.87 in previous contributions and in-kind donations received, $3,025 in contributions of more than $100 and $2,235 in contributions less than $100.
Contributions of more than $100 included $500 each from Kay Jernigan and Edward Hayes, $325 from Fayette County Democratic Committee, $300 from the Fayette Democratic Women, $250 from J. Martin and Associates, Inc. and $200 or less from Carolyn Fludd, Liesa Johnson, Phillip McDonald, Sybil Smith and Doris Payne.
Expenditures listed in Coston’s filing included $4,266.84 for items such as various signs, mail processing and postage, printed material and shirts.
Post 2 candidate Ryan Housley in his Sept. 30 filing listed $750 in total contributions and $636.69 in expenditures.
Housley’s contributions included $500 from himself and $250 from Karen Gooding.
Housley’s expenditures included $636.69 in signs, flyers, business cards and shirts.
