Louis M.E. Thys, age 87, died Sunday September 4, 2011 at Ashley Glen Assisted Living Center in Peachtree City, GA.
He was born in Bandung, Indonesia, the son of Mathias Thijs and Mathilda (Hijmans) Thijs.
He is survived by six children; Yvonne Marvel, Frank Thijs, Joyce Pilch, Wil Thijs and Lilian Thijs; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters.
Louis was a career military officer who retired as a Captain in the Royal Dutch Army. He is a veteran or World War II serving in the Pacific and the Far East. After the war he served the military in Indonesia, Surinam, and the Netherlands. Following his retirement from the military in 1980 he immigrated to the United States.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 PM at Camp Memorial Park in Fayetteville, with Pastor Miriam Beecher officiating.
