Peachtree City Girl Scout Troop 436 was recognized in a formal ceremony in May for earning the highest award in Junior Girl Scouting, the Girl Scout Bronze Award. Each of these girls has achieved the high ideals and goals expressed by Juliette Gordon Low, who founded the Girl Scout movement in 1912. These 11 girls have served their country, community, and God with their hard work and skills.
There were four requirements each girl had to complete in order to earn the Bronze Award. First they earned two badges, “Pet Care” and “Horse Fan”, which were related to the service project they chose to do. Second, they complete one Girl Scout Sign, the “Sign of the World”, which included earning the “Model Citizen” badge. Third, they earned the “Girl Scouting in the USA” and “Girl Scouting Around the World” badges. The fourth and final step was that the girls completed their service project which consisted of approximately 15 hours of planning and service time.
For the service project, the girls decided to educate the local community on the needs of the Fayette County Animal Shelter by distributing flyers, placing posters and telling people in person about the needs of the shelter. They arrange to collect donations at local retail stores in Peachtree City as well as Braelinn Elementary. In total during the month of April, the troop collected 226 cans of cat food, 173 cans of dog food, 83 cat toys, 62 dog toys, 13 bags of dry dog food & 3 bags of dry cat food. They also received enough donations to purchase a bench for the dog run and some additional items the shelter needed.
