Among a very busy agenda for its workshop meeting this Wednesday (Aug. 3), the Fayette County Commission will discuss whether it wants to revisit establishing an independent library system for Fayette County.

Currently, the Fayette County, Peachtree City and Tyrone libraries are all part of the Flint River Regional Library System.

But the library system’s recent decision to withdraw funding for Fayette County Library Director Christeen Snell by the end of this year has some questioning what benefit the county gets from its annual contribution to FRRLS.

The commission’s workshop meeting convenes at 3:30 p.m. at the county’s Stonewall government complex in downtown Fayetteville.

In other business, the commission will discuss setting standards for property acquisition in an effort to make the process clearer for citizens. The concept was brought forth by Commissioner Allen McCarty, who has seen some confusion among residents whose land is being sought for the West Fayetteville Bypass project.

The commission is also expected to have more discussion on the staff recommendation to establish a stormwater utility, along with more information about relocating the local office of the Women, Infants and Children initiative.
