On Friday, July 15, Courtney R., (Pete) and Page Fritts, residents of Fayette County for the past 24 years, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Flat Creek Club in Peachtree City. They were joined by a group of 146 relatives and guests from 13 different states. The festivities included a receiving line, cocktail hour, buffet dinner and dancing to the popular “Headliners” band from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Mr. and Mrs. Fritts were married July 15, 1961 in the historical George Washington Memorial Chapel in the Valley Forge National Park, located adjacent to the bride’s childhood home in Valley Forge, Pa. Following the retirement of Col. Fritts, after 20 years on active duty in the U.S. Army Airborne Infantry and Military Police Corps, the Fritts family settled in Georgia. Initially, they lived in DeKalb County and, moved to Peachtree City in 1987, where they have been residents ever since.
While still on active duty with the U.S. Army at Fort McPherson in 1978, Fritts joined the coaching staff at Woodward Academy as a volunteer. Upon his retirement in 1980, he accepted a fulltime position as a teacher and coach. Both of the Fritts children, Deborah and Peter, graduated from Woodward Academy in 1981 and 1983, respectively. In 1990, Mrs. Fritts and son, Peter, were both hired to become members of the Woodward faculty.
Mr. and Mrs. Fritts will complete the celebration of their Golden Anniversary in August with a trip to Greece, where they will tour Athens for a few days and, then will sail in and out of the Greek Isles on a Clipper Ship for the remainder of their anniversary vacation.
