Clayton State University’s campus in Peachtree City will be moving northward before fall classes begin.
The Fayette County campus will be moving to office space at 100 World Drive, on the northern end of Peachtree Parkway across from the Kedron Village shopping center.
The big move coincides with the success of the program, which offers dual enrollment for high school students as well as degree completion programs, psychology and business degrees for part-time students, and the MBA.
The new facility will be three miles north of the current Fayette campus, which is located in an office building in the Westpark area near the intersection of Ga. Highways 54 and 74. The new location provides a spot less than 12 miles away from all Fayette County high schools, officials said.
The new facility also has more parking with the opportunity for expansion in the future, college officials said.
“We have grown even faster than expected at our current location,” says Clayton State Associate Vice President of Extended Programs Dr. Kevin Demmitt. “Before opening our current location we averaged about 80 students per semester in all of our classes combined. Now we have more than 800. We are excited about this move to a new facility that will give us more room to grow in the future.
“Fayette County has the most dual enrollment students at Clayton State, so it was important for us to stay within easy driving distance of all the area high schools. Students will still be able to take morning classes and get to their high schools by second period.”
The World Drive location is the fourth for Clayton State’s presence in Fayette County. The original Fayette Center opened across the street from the Fayette County Courthouse in Fayetteville in 1995. The second location was in the Peachtree City Tennis Center. The current location on Commerce Drive opened for classes in January 2008.
