It will be an opportunity for Senoia residents to get a first-hand look at how police officers do their job. The Senoia Police Dept. will offer its first Citizens’ Police Academy beginning in July.
The six-week course will offer information on law enforcement issues ranging from training requirements, patrol operations, investigations, crime prevention, use of force, traffic and DUI law and a firearms simulation exercise, according to department spokesperson Steve Tomlin.
Tomlin said the course is free but the class size is limited to the first 20 selected applicants. Applications may be downloaded at www.senoiapd.com or picked up at the Senoia Police Department, located at 505 Howard Road.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a resident of the city or a local business owner. All applicants will be subject to a criminal history check and must sign a hold harmless agreement to participate.
The Citizen’s Police Academy course will begin on July 20 and end Aug. 24. The course will be held at the Senoia Police Department every Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The application deadline is Friday, July 15.
