Genevieve Oddo, 94, long-time resident of Fayette County, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, June 12, 2011.
She was born on April 14, 1917, in Brooklyn, New York, to her immigrant parents, Alfred and Celeste Grillo. Her family struggled during the Great Depression, and if for no other reason than necessity, Genevieve began to make her way in the business world. Starting as a dental assistant, she went on to Firmenich & Co (perfumes), the War Department (now the Department of Defense) during World War II, and the Brooklyn Gas Company. Work was a joy for Genevieve, but music was her passion from a very young age. Through the years she became a very accomplished concert pianist, a treat reserved primarily for her family and friends.
When her three sons began arriving, she gave up work to care for them until her late husband, Paul, Sr., founded Oddo Publishing with Genevieve’s assistance in 1964. From then on, Genevieve pursued both dreams of being a loving wife and mother and continuing her career in the business world.
In 1970, Genevieve arrived in Fayetteville, GA, with her husband and children. She will be sorely missed.
Surviving are her three sons, Paul, Jr. and his wife Nohemí, Chuck and his wife Pily and Warren. Other survivors include her brother, William, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Mableton, GA, with Father Howard Venette officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Memorial Park Cemetery, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and on Sunday, June 19 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Associations, 1925 Century Blvd., NE, Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30345.
