Although recent McIntosh graduate Dwight Smith Jr. will likely start playing minor league ball in the South, the goal will be to one day start in the Great White North.
Smith Jr., a recent McIntosh graduate and outfielder for the Chiefs varsity baseball team, was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night. The Blue Jays selected Smith, son of former major leaguer Dwight Smith, with the 53rd overall pick.
A story at Bluejays.com states that Smith, 5-feet-11-inches, 180 pounds, is likely to make a transition to a corner outfield position and has the ability to hit for high average.
Smith had not been reached for comment by the time the paper went to press.
